Peer has been a secondee from the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung to the FriEnt team since September 2026 and works primarily on issues relating to peace and security. Following a period working on the Northern Europe project at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), he has been with the FES since 2016, where he initially managed the domestic country projects for Northern Europe, the UK and the EU/Brussels. This was followed by a posting abroad in Lebanon from 2017 to 2018, and he went on to head the Foundation’s three projects in the Baltic States from 2019 to 2022. Most recently, from 2022 to 2026, he worked as a social affairs officer at the Embassy in Belgrade, appointed by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, with responsibility for Serbia and Montenegro. Peer studied Modern and Contemporary History, Political Science and Northern European Studies at Humboldt University in Berlin and Uppsala University. His final thesis examined the approaches to peace and neutrality in Swedish foreign policy after the Second World War, and he brings experience of the regional context of Central and Eastern Europe to his work at FriEnt. Peer is currently programme officer for peace and security (with a focus on peace and development) in the Global and European Policy (GEP) department at the FES.
