Germany has a new Development Minister

Reem Alabali-Radovan was appointed as Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development on 6 May 2025.

She succeeds former Development Minister Svenja Schulze. Reem Alabali-Radovan most recently served as Minister of State to the Federal Chancellor and Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration.

In a press release issued by the Ministry, Reem Alabali-Radovan announced various key areas of her development policy: among others the fight against poverty, hunger, and inequality as well as a just economic cooperation, justice, and security. Furthermore, the new Minister stressed the enduring importance of cooperation, partnerships, and solidarity. Development policy will remain an indispensable part of Germany’s holistic security and migration policy – and Germany will remain a reliable, open-minded partner.
