Aline Watermann

Advisor for Cooperation and Network Management

Aline Watermann studied International Relations with a focus on peace, conflict, and development in France and Germany. This is complemented by practical training and further education in conflict transformation, trauma-centred counseling, yoga, dance and theater pedagogy. She started her professional career with civil society actors with a focus on domestic development work, global learning, and the empowerment of diaspora organisations. This took her to Togo and Sri Lanka, to the European Parliament in Brussels, and to Mexico, where she worked for UNHCR. Aline Watermann has been working for Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) since 2018. Her first assignment took her to Colombia, where she focused on peacebuilding and psychosocial health. She then brought her expertise to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) division for peace and security. In the following three years, she was in charge of the “Sports for Development” project in Morocco, which promotes young people through sports and exercise. Most recently, she supported the evacuation process of vulnerable people from Afghanistan. Aline Watermann has been part of the FriEnt team since the beginning of 2025.
