Werner Lottje Lecture: Widerstand im Exil

Brot für die Welt und das Deutsche Institut für Menschenrechte würdigen in der 11. Werner Lottje Lecture am 25. April 2024 die nicaraguanische Menschenrechtsverteidigerin Wendy Flores Acevedo, Koordinatorin des Colectivo de Derechos Humanos Nicaragua Nunca Más.

Wendy Flores Acevedo setzt sich gemeinsam mit dem Colectivo aus dem Exil für die Rechte von Opfern der nicaraguanischen Diktatur ein, macht auf Menschenrechtsverletzungen in Nicaragua aufmerksam und trägt zur Erinnerungs- und Bildungsarbeit bei. Sie ist ein Bezugspunkt für die nicaraguanische Exilgemeinde und die internationale Gemeinschaft.

Zusammen mit Gästen aus Politik und Zivilgesellschaft werden folgende Fragen diskutiert:

Wie arbeiten nicaraguanische Menschenrechtsverteidiger*innen im und aus dem Exil? Mit welchen Problemen und Widerständen sind sie konfrontiert? Welche Art von internationalem Engagement ist notwendig, damit Menschenrechtsverteidiger*innen wie Wendy Flores ihre Arbeit auch im Exil fortsetzen können? Und wie können ihre Forderungen nach Gerechtigkeit unterstützt werden?

Die 11. Werner-Lottje Lecture findet statt am Donnerstag, den 25.04.2024, von 18:00 Uhr bis 20:00 Uhr im Haus der EKD in Berlin. Bei Interesse melden Sie sich bitte vorher online an.

“A conflict is not forgotten, because the headlines move on”

At FriEnt’s latest Forgotten Conflicts series discussion, held on 26 August in Berlin, experts and practitioners from Nigeria and Germany explored the drivers and consequences of violence in the country’s Northwest and Middle Belt. The discussion challenged narratives that portray the violence primarily as a religious conflict and highlighted the need to address climate stress, land scarcity, governance gaps and the erosion of livelihoods, while strengthening locally rooted approaches to peacebuilding.
