EUMA Armenien: Chance oder Risiko?

In einem aktuellen ZIF-Kompakt geht es um die gerade beschlossene EU-Mission in Armenien (EUMA), die zur Stabilisierung der krisengeschüttelten Region beitragen soll.

Als Emmanuel Macron am 6. Oktober letzten Jahres in Prag zusammen mit EU-Ratspräsident
Michel die Staatsführer von Armenien und Aserbaidschan, Paschinjan und Alijew traf, hätte wohl niemand gedacht, dass dieses Treffen über Zwischenschritte hin zu einer neuen, mindestens zweijährigen, zivilen EU-Mission im Rahmen der Gemeinsamen Sicherheits- und
Verteidigungspolitik (GSVP) führen würde. Kann die in dieser Woche vom Europäischen Rat
beschlossene EU Mission in Armenien (EUMA) einen Beitrag zur Stabilisierung des Konfliktes
beider Länder leisten, den die International Crisis Group als einen der 10 riskantesten für 2023
sieht? Und kann der Prozess, der zu EUMA führte, auch beispielhaft sein für eine erneuerte und flexiblere zivile GSVP? Auf jeden Fall zeigt Deutschland, unter anderem mit der Besetzung der Leitung der Mission sein großes Interesse an EUMA.

At FriEnt’s latest Forgotten Conflicts series discussion, held on 26 August in Berlin, experts and practitioners from Nigeria and Germany explored the drivers and consequences of violence in the country’s Northwest and Middle Belt. The discussion challenged narratives that portray the violence primarily as a religious conflict and highlighted the need to address climate stress, land scarcity, governance gaps and the erosion of livelihoods, while strengthening locally rooted approaches to peacebuilding.
