An earthquake brought the economy in Nepal to a grinding halt. The following essay analyses the effects of the quake and the impact it might have on nationbuilding.

25 April 2015 brought terrible ordeal for the Nepalese citizens. A mega earthquake of 7.8 magnitude and its after-effects killed over 9.000 persons, wounded another 18.000 and destroyed the Nepali nation’s valuable infrastructure as well as cultural heritage sites of the Kathmandu valley. It affected 8.1 million people, more than a fourth of Nepal’s total population of 27.8 million, and triggered avalanches in the Himalayan region. Furthermore, 3.000 landslides in the mountains imposed difficulty for rescue operations and relief delivery. The earthquake brought the economy to a grinding halt. The following essay analyses the effects of the quake and the impact it might have on nationbuilding in Nepal.
