Join FriEnt on 28 October 2025 at 17:30 CET at the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Berlin for a public debate with experts and civil society representatives.

Rising global power competition and increasing militarisation are reshaping international relations, with serious implications for countries in the so-called Global South – including reduced development aid and growing conflict risks. Therefore, the follwoing key questions will be discussed:

  • How does the so-called Global South perceive the current militarisation and rise in geopolitics? What are the key risks they perceive?
  • What are the consequences of decreased development aid for projects and countries in the so-called Global South? Are there also potential chances in this shift (e.g. more autonomy, less dependence)?
  • What are key recommendations for Europe, Germany, and our partners in the so-called Global South against the background of these trends?
  • How and with whom can alliances for peace and development be created despite militarisation and rise of geopolitics?

Speakers include:

  • Dr. Swasti Rao (India)
  • Prof. Antonio Jorge Ramalho da Rocha (Brazil)
  • Dr. Xinyu Yuan (Germany)
